With seventeen large screens and six craft beers on tap, Point Place Casino and Turning Stone Casino open sports betting for its customers. On August 1, the Oneida Indian Nation held a grand opening of its sports wagering lounge at Turning Stone. It is located just inside the doors to the Tower Hotel and in front of the Upstate Tavern.

The Lounge with Caesar Sports will feature the most up-to-date elements in sports betting and cutting-edge technology.

said Ray Halbritter, Oneida Nation leader.

In addition to Turning Stone, in Verona, the nation runs Point Place, in Bridgeport. They also plan to open a sports betting lounge at the Yellow Brick Road casino later this summer. All three casinos will be operated by the Oneida Nation who will join in partnership with the Nevada-based Caesars Entertainment.

The Turning Stone sports gaming floor contains a variety of blue leather chairs and high-top tables. A long translucent bar can be found against the betting window. There, guests can enjoy signature cocktails and craft beers. The sports lounge also has a specially designed menu that features tacos, hamburgers, and naturally, a Caesar salad.

The Oneida nation recruited Justin Arnett to oversee the sports operations. He ran the sports booking operation at the Las Vegas Venetian Resort Hotel for three years. Now the Oneidas’ director of sportsbook operations, Arnett said sports betting at the nation’s casinos will be user-friendly and will start at $5 a bet.

Sports fans at Turning Stone can watch games on the seventeen screens, which include a 9 feet high and 48 feet long curved TV. The Oneidas claim that screen is comparable to the one dominating Times Square, in NY City.

Across Upstate New York, eight sports betting lounges are under development, and the Oneida Nation casinos account for three of them. Expectations are that all eight lounges will open by fall, this year, right on time for the most exciting betting season. The Oneida Nation hopes to boost both regional tourism and the casino business by attracting a new crowd of sports bettors.

Although bets on New York college teams or collegiate events held in the state cannot be made, bettors can wager on professional and college sports in general. Under state law, casinos can only take bets from those customers who are physically located in the sports lounges.
