A total of 12 drivers have won at least once in 18 NASCAR Cup Series races this season as we go into the 19th race this Sunday at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. The 1.54-mile-long quad-oval speedway has a banking angle of 24 degrees on the turns and five degrees on the straights.

The possibility of a 13th new name appearing as the winner at the Quaker State 400 is not low, especially after the last two races, as evident from the odds at the best NASCAR betting websites.

NASCAR Quaker State 400 Expert Predictions

After a ten-year sabbatical from 2011 to 2020, the Quaker State 400 was back on the NASCAR Cup Series calendar in 2021. Kurt Busch won that race and nabbed three successive wins at the track after winning the 2009 and 2010 races at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Last year, that streak was broken by Chase Elliot, who clinched a crucial win after acing all three stages.

Kurt started 19th but made his way up the pack and was seventh after Stage One. At the end of Stage Two, he moved up another couple of places and was looking sharp before faltering in Stage Three. Due to that situation, he finished 22nd, while Elliot held onto his nerves throughout the race and took the top spot on the podium.

Ranked 24th in the current driver standings, Elliot has been pegged as one of the top favorites to win the Quaker State 400 this year. If the Chevrolet driver does take the checkered flag, he will become the 13th new driver to win a NASCAR Cup Series race this season. Elliot has five top-five finishes and seven top-ten finishes in 18 races but has yet to win this year.

The odds back him the same way they back the other Busch on track – Kyle. Ranked fifth in the standings, Kyle’s last victory on this track came in 2008 in a Toyota. He has won three races this season – Pala Casino 400, Geico 500, and Illinois 300. He has a big chance of winning at a familiar track and becoming the driver with the most wins this season.

Hamlin In Sprightly Form

Denny Hamlin secured his fourth stage win of the season at the Nashville Superspeedway when he finished first at the end of Stage Two of the Ally 400. However, he could not hold onto the lead and was eventually passed by Martin Truex Jr. and Ross Chastain. But he held onto third place, which was not a bad result considering that he started eighth.

That performance has earned Hamlin the third-best odds ahead of the Quaker State 400. Ryan Blaney will be looking to bounce back after a slow restart upfront lead to a stack-up that forced Busch into the back of Blaney’s Ford. The contact resulted in an infield grass spin for both cars, while Blaney went hard into the wall to get his first DNF of the season.

Martin Truex Jr. leads the table as things stand and has a nine-point lead over William Byron. Truex Jr’s last win this season came two races ago, at the Illinois 300 over a month ago. Despite all the aforementioned facts, the standings leader is not backed by the strongest odds. However, his chances of winning are quite high.

Brad Keselowski sits 128 points off the top of the table, and is still looking for his first win. The 39-year-old is ranked 13th on the table and was impressive at the Ally 400 when he took his Ford to 11th place from 20th. He has three top-five finishes and six top-tens. His recent improvements on track have earned him some strong odds.

In Nashville, Chastain had the perfect outing as he qualified at the top of the grid and remained at the top until the end of the race to secure his first win. However, despite this amazing feat, his odds are not great, signifying the possibility that he may not be a top contender in Atlanta. Many experts believe that the victory in Nashville could be the only win Chastain earns this year.

Christopher Bell and Byron are ranked fourth and second, respectively. The former has only one win so far this season, while the latter has won thrice. Both these drivers may not have the best odds but will certainly be top contenders who challenge drivers like Kyle, Elliot, and Hamlin. It will be interesting to see that battle.

Overall, predicting the winner in such a mercurial season is challenging. Any driver from the grid could easily sneak in front and take the checkered flag. However, Bell, Byron, and Kyle will be the top favorites to win the Quaker State 400.
