It has emerged that there are now more women than ever betting on sports, with many turning to the plethora of sports betting apps that are now available. A report was recently released by data analysis firm GWS, and this showed that there was enormous growth in the number of females using sports betting apps in 2021 compared to 2020.

With the global pandemic taking its toll on all aspects of life in 2020, there were many changes that took place in terms of how people enjoyed entertainment.

It appears that a lot of women decided to turn to the rising number of sports betting apps to enjoy a flutter while restrictions were in place, with the number of female users rising by 115 percent in 2021 compared to the previous year.

Improved Access to Sports Betting

There are various reasons that have been put forward for the huge growth in female sports betting app users. Among these is the increased access to sports betting platforms, with many states having now legalized mobile and online sports betting.

One industry journalist said:

It doesn’t surprise me that there’s more growth among women just because, historically, there have been fewer women who wagered on sports, so now that they have access to that, it’s natural that the percentage growth is going to be higher than men because the male market was more mature.

While the number of overall sports bettors is made up mainly of men, some sports betting platforms are now seeing higher numbers of female bettors than male ones.

In all, the number of male users of sports betting apps is around 250 percent more than females. Between 2020 and 2021, there was also an increase in the number of male users, which increased by 63 percent.

Some platforms have enjoyed huge success in attracting new female users. BetRivers and SugarHouse, which is its New Jersey outlet, brought more than 600,000 new female users on board last year compared to 380,000 male bettors. However, FanDuel fared the best when it came to attracting female bettors, as it saw around 1.7 million women signing up for sports betting in 2021.

Noah Kirk, the general manager of FanDuel Sportsbook at Footprint Center, said that there were more and more female bettors signing up to its platform every day. He said that its popularity appeared to be growing among women.

A Range of Factors

It is thought that there could be a range of factors that have contributed to the overall growth of female sportsbook app users. The increased number of states that have legalized this is one of these factors.

However, some believe that a lot of women turned to mobile sports betting during the pandemic when severe restrictions were in place, and many have continued to use these platforms despite restrictions now being lifted.

In addition, there are now more operators offering mobile and online sports betting, and this has also helped to boost the number of women signing up for these platforms.
