We’re on to the Sweet 16, and pre-tournament favorite Gonzaga matches up against a solid Arkansas team. Gonzaga has looked flat at times so far, so Arkansas will look to capitalize on these struggles. Here is everything you need to know about Sweet 16 betting on Arkansas and Gonzaga.
Gonzaga is tipped by many to make the finals. However, the Bulldogs have not been in dominant form lately after losing the final game of the year to 18th ranked Saint Mary’s. Gonzaga needs to live up to its number one ranking if it’s to beat this Arkansas team.
Arkansas is a solid team but is also struggling a bit of late. The Razorbacks were on the wrong end of a blowout in the SEC Tournament, losing by 18 to a weaker Texas A&M team. Arkansas, a four seed, beat 13 & 12 seeds Vermont and NM State by a few points each to advance to the Sweet 16.
The Bulldogs are ranked number one in the nation, and for good reason. Gonzaga went 28-3 with the 28th hardest strength of schedule in the country, including an impressive 16-0 at home. The only blemishes on the Bulldogs’ record were tough road matchups against Duke, Alabama, and St. Mary’s.
Gonzaga is a fast-paced team with lots of tempo, so the Bulldogs need to use this to their advantage if they’re to win against a stout Arkansas defense. The Bulldogs need to make better decisions in general with the ball if they’re to make it to the Tournament championship game.
On the other hand, Gonzaga’s defense is also no slouch. Arkansas has struggled with shooting all year, so the Bulldogs need to limit the Razorback’s inside shot attempts. Gonzaga’s defense is third in the nation in defending the interior, so the Bulldog’s defense should come out ahead of Arkansas’ offense.
Gonzaga is led by forward Drew Timme. He’s averaging 18.1 points per game across just 27.7 minutes.
Center Chet Holmgren averages close to a double-double per game, with 12.1 points to go along with 9.8 rebounds per game in 27 minutes.
Gonzaga is in the top-10 offenses and defenses in almost every important statistical category, so they need to play like it if they want to advance.

Michigan had a weird season, to say the least. They got crushed by a far inferior Central Florida team, and they promptly plummeted out of the national top-25. Not to mention Coach Juwan Howard’s bizarre suspension for punching an assistant from arch-rivals Wisconsin in a brawl.
After sitting out five games as punishment, Howard came back in a big way as he led Michigan to an upset win over Colorado State in the first round.
Arkansas has had a decent year buoyed by its defense. The Razorbacks are awful shooters, however, as demonstrated by their 48.7% eFG – only 263rd in the nation. However, Arkansas limits opponents’ points well, something they’ll need to do to have a chance against Gonzaga.
Arkansas offense is led by guard JD Notae, who averages 18.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game in 32.9 minutes. He needs to have a big game and improve upon his 30.3% shooting from deep if Arkansas wants to win.

Arkansas and Gonzaga are both fairly fast teams in terms of pace. Both have offensive efficiency ratings in the 100s, meaning both sides score over 100 points per 100 possessions, which means plenty of points.
On the other side of the coin, both the Razorbacks and Bulldogs play solid defense. If Arkansas can limit Gonzaga’s scoring and the Bulldogs can put pressure on the Razorbacks shooters, points could be hard to come by.

If you’re considering betting against the spread, Arkansas has a solid 20-14-1 ATS record while Gonzaga is 14-14-3. There could be value in the Razorbacks covering given their success against the spread this season, though you could also bet on the Bulldogs to cover to get some value over the moneyline.
If you think Arkansas will win but want some more safety, then take the points. The lines are steaming towards Gonzaga, so you might be able to wait until closer to tip-off for an even juicier Razorbacks points spread.
