Unstoppable Video Game Athletes: Jeremy Roenick in NHL 94
Who is the strongest video game athlete? Many would probably agree with us that it’s Jeremy Roenick in NHL 94. This guy was a one-man wrecking machine on the virtual ice, and while the game was a major success, many players were left wondering how one player could be so ridiculously good.
Roenick was blessed with an uncanny blend of speed, agility, and shooting skills, which made him an absolute nightmare for the opposition. On top of this, his durability was unreal; in fact, he was pretty much invincible, effortlessly brushing off body checks as if they were delivered by small children. Players who were controlling Roenick could simply skate him around, bulldozing past hopeless defenders – and his ability to shoot was also over exaggerated, as he almost never missed a shot!
The worst (or best) part was you didn’t even need to be a pro gamer to play with Roenick successfully. The gameplay was so unfairly weighted that even newbie players could take experts to school, and it’s one of the reasons NHL 94 was so memorable.
Michael Vick: Madden ’04
When it comes to unstoppable video game athletes, Michael Vick in Madden 04 is another notable mention. As the ultimate dual-threat quarterback, Vick brought a whole new level of gameplay dynamics to the virtual game, and, in our opinion, is one of the most overpowered video game athletes in history!
Vick was the fastest QB in the game, boasting a ridiculous speed rating of 95, meaning he was able to outpace most defenders and easily turn a broken play into a quick touchdown sprint. What’s more, his strength was unrivaled, and he was able to launch incredibly accurate throws down almost the entire length of the pitch!
The versatility of Vick’s in-game character made it pretty much impossible to defend against him. If you tried to blitz him, he’d simply run away with the ball, while if you played coverage, he’d effortlessly find an open receiver deep downfield. Trying to stop him was like trying to catch smoke with your bare hands.
Still, despite the developer’s determination to make Vick into somewhat of a God-like player, Madden ’04 is one of the most successful NFL games in history, and it kickstarted the game’s popularity, which remains high, even today.
Pablo Sanchez: Backyard Sports
Pablo Sanchez is classed, by many, as a complete virtual legend. Sure, many used to refer to him as a “kid of small stature with an oversized baseball cap”, but in Backyard Sports he was able to pack an insanely powerful punch, making the first choice for anyone playing.
Sanchez had it all. Speed, power, and agility—attributes that made him an all-around superstar across various sports, including baseball, soccer, and football. Whether it was hitting home runs, sprinting past defenders, or scoring goals, Sanchez was the dream player every player wanted to have in their team, and if you were lucky enough to do so, you’d be pretty much guaranteed a win.
His statistics were off the charts, often seeming more like those of a seasoned pro than a neighborhood kid. Backyard Sports didn’t prove to be the most popular – or successful – video game on this list, but Sanchez is definitely one of the unstoppable video game athletes we’re covering today.

In Tecmo Bowl, Jackson was virtually unstoppable. His speed and power turned him into a touchdown machine. He was, by all accounts, an unstoppable force on the field, and it appeared like the game developers decided to stuff all the real-life athletic power and more of Bo Jackson into his digital character.
