The current Arizona Downs race track is relatively new development looked through the prism of history. The first race track was built on old Rodeo Grounds in 1959 with races being hosted there until 2000. Roughly around that time the race track, in its current state, was built in Prescott Valley.

The establishment has filed several times for bankruptcy. First, in 2011, and then, following a purchase by one Gary Miller, in 2015. In 2018, the facility was sold to J&J Equine Enterprises LLC. Under their management, plans of reopening the race track have been in place – however they have been delayed by the pandemic. The track is expected to resume full operations by July 2021.
