It’s a sad state of affairs for these NFL fanbases. Both for this season, and the future.

Heading into week 8, the parity in the NFL this year is very lopsided. The NFC seems competitive, with 13 out of 16 teams having 3 wins. The AFC however, is a dumpster fire. 7 out of the 16 teams in the NFC have less than 3 wins. 3 of the teams only have 1 win, while the Jets have 0. I’m going to throw the Bengals in there to make it an even 8 out of 16, Flacco can get you a win or two but no Joe Burrow is basically a chalk on the season. Some of these teams don’t even show signs of staying competitive, like the Jets, Dolphins, and Titans. With that being said, let;s dive into some of these sad state of affairs.
After this loss against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Las Vegas Raiders need to enter full tank and rebuild mode. Geno Smith is no longer the answer, and I honestly don’t see how Raiders fans thought he ever was. Geno made one playoff appearance when he was with Seattle, and got killed. His other seasons were the definition of mid. Nobody can hate on his comeback story his first year there, that was great. Besides that, he has never been the answer. In 4 quarters of football, Geno went 10/16 and 67 yards against the Chiefs. The defense completely swallowed him, Ashton Jenty, and the rest of the offense. Everyone knew the Raiders were bad, but this was the statement to start the rebuild. Don’t keep Geno in either, we’re tired of watching it. Kenny Pickett may be able to show some flash, at least get fans excited. The last thing the football world wants to see is more of Maxx Crosby and even newcomer Ashton Jenty be wasted wearing the black and silver. The season is done, but at least make it exciting by benching Geno Smith. It’s a hard pill for Pete Carroll to swallow, but he knows what needs to be done.
It’s time to settle the Mike McDaniel and Tua Tagovailoa. Tua does not have it anymore, whether that be for the Miami Dolphins or another team. It’s sad to see, but quit torturing Dolphins fans with it. The seasons done, and probably the next year or so. Same thing with Geno Smith, just bench Tua. Let’s see what Quinn Ewers has or give us more of Zach Wilson. I don’t think Mike McDaniel should be let go. He hasn’t had enough time, and hasn’t been able to work with another QB. Sure he wears funny pants, but the guy can call good plays. He has the analytic mindset. I say you let him work it out with another QB. I was a Tua stan when he came into the league. After the year they made the playoffs and got embarrassed by the Chiefs, I knew it was over from there. They never win the big games, and he just doesn’t have that offensive flash. If Miami can settle the quarterback issue, they still have some great pieces they can rely on when they get a new person under center. De’Von Achane is fast and electrifying. Tyreek is as good as gone, but Waddle has shown signs of being a great receiver. Ollie Gordon has flashes as a rookie, and somehow Darren Waller has been resurrected. This Miami season is a disaster, and I expect a similar thing for at least next season. If they can move on from Tua, and McDaniel can buy back the confidence in this team, they may be back in the shining light. At least get the teams back behind you, and stop having so many player only meetings.
The Titans got rid of Brian Callahan and showed signs of being competitive for all of about a quarter and a half. Can we start to have the discussion of Cam Ward vs Will Levis? Through the first 7 career games, Levis leads in passing yards and touchdowns, while he’s had less interceptions, sacks taken, and fumbles lost. These stats are obviously subjective and based on the team around them. The Titans do not have the best offensive line, and it’s not like he has many receivers to rely on. Tyler Lockett asked for a release and got it. The running backs don’t help either, Tyjae Spears never worked out and Tony Pollard isn’t what he used to be. I feel bad for Cam Ward. Even in his own words, “We Ass”. I don’t see it getting better for the Titans either. You have to give Cam Ward at least another year, but we can’t expect them to give him a better supporting cast to not be one of the worst teams in the league. The Titans can’t even do what the Panthers did with Bryce Young and bench him to give him time. The backup is Brandon Allen who hasn’t really had much experience besides being a backup for years. At least Andy Dalton was a starter for some years. The Titans have a lot of questions to address, and it starts with getting a coach with some grit that can get the team behind him.
Everyone knows the Saints season is over, but out of these 4 teams I think the Saints are the closest to finishing a rebuild. Spencer Rattler is not the answer, we all know that. They have a decent defense, and have stayed competitive in half their games. I think with this one the issue all comes from under center. Alivin Kamara does what he can, and Saints fans should support him at every cost after he stated he wants to stay with this dumpster fire of a team. Spencer Rattler tries, but it’s not working. They need to stay competitive enough to please passionate New Orleans fans, but still plan to lose so they can draft a QB. Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed are fun receivers to watch. It’d be nice to see them and Kamra get a solid QB to run what could be an exciting offense. Taysom Hill could make any offense somewhat exciting, but we want more out of the Big Easy. Year 1 standout QB’s are rare, but if the Saints pick right, they could see happiness again a few years down the road.
I would talk about the Jets, but I think Jets fans have been through enough in recent years.
