Manchester City and Inter Milan will vie for European glory on June 11th. Manchester City have already won their third Premier League title in a row and are hoping to become the first English side since Manchester United in 1999 to achieve a treble (Champions League, FA Cup, and Premier League). Inter Milan are three-time European Champions but have surprised everyone by getting this far into the competition.

Let’s now look at the pre-game odds, preview the game in greater detail, and predict how it’ll all unfurl as the best US soccer betting sites gear up for the end of the season.

Manchester City vs Inter Milan Preview

As the odds suggest, Manchester City are overwhelming favorites. Their second-leg performance against Real Madrid in the semifinals is already being hailed as one of the greatest performances in European football history. There are already shouts within media circles that this might be the most remarkable English team of all time.

Of course, the outcome of this game and the FA Cup final against city rivals Manchester United will determine if they are in the conversation, so it’s best to stay tight-lipped before the games take place. Similar conversations were being had regarding Liverpool last season before the Merseyside club missed out on Premier League and European glory by the smallest of margins last season.

No such conversations are being had about Inter Milan, who were the last Italian club to win the Champions League in 2009. Their semifinal win against Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona in the semifinals is now considered one of the greatest semifinals in the competition’s history, so it’ll be fascinating to see if they can be a thorn in Guardiaola’s side again. Like Manchester City, they’ve grown more assertive in the latter part of the season.

As good as Manchester City have been in recent weeks, it took them a while to figure out how to get the best of Erling Haaland without compromising on what’s worked for them in the last couple of seasons. They’ve looked indestructible since pushing John Stones in midfield after the last international break in March.

Inter Milan have gone for a more conservative approach in the season’s final months – they’ve become one of the most deadly counter-attacking teams in Europe after having little success with the possess and press approach earlier in the season. The strike duo of Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez have also been too strong for most defenses, and an in-form Romelu Lukaku has wreaked havoc off the bench.

Inter Milan have players with the quality to change games within seconds, whereas Manchester City have become masters at preventing those moments from occurring in the last few months. Manchester City’s game against Manchester United in the FA Cup final also feels significant because of the treble discussion. City have raised the bar so high that not completing a treble will be considered a disappointment.

Manchester City vs Inter Milan Prediction

Pick: Manchester City

A glimpse at the odds makes it clear how strong Manchester City are currently. They’ve arguably been the best European side for the last half a decade but have slipped at the final stages in the most dramatic fashion and due to the finest of margins. It has always felt like a matter of time before they achieve something like a treble.

The first goal usually decides these games, but even if Inter Milan score first, you don’t get the sense that Manchester City will falter with Erling Haaland waiting to pounce in the box, Ilkay Gundogan making runs from deep, and Kevin De Bruyne capable of pulling off something special. Manchester City also have the likes of Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez, and Julian Alvarez to call upon when things aren’t working out.

For the Italians to make this work, they’ll have to score the early goal, hold onto the lead until Romelu Lukaku comes in, and count on him to finish the game as an impact sub. It can be done, but there can be no room for mistakes and a lot of good fortune, which seems highly improbable.

Another fact that Inter Milan might latch onto is Manchester City’s away form. Many of their most impressive wins of the season have come at home. Real Madrid managed to draw them at the Bernabeu, Manchester United beat them at Old Trafford, and Arsenal came close to nicking something at the Emirates.

Of course, a neutral venue isn’t the same as playing home or away, but Inter Milan need every edge they can muster to push themselves during the match. They’ve also got history in this competition, unlike Manchester City. Their fans will certainly be louder than the City faithful, who have a strange contempt for UEFA and a reputation for not creating the best atmosphere at the Etihad.

All things considered, it’s really hard to look away from City for this one. Many of the factors that went against them in previous seasons seem to have disappeared this season. The stars seem to have finally aligned for what looks like a special season.
