Up until now, most of the sports betting chatter has revolved around the start of the NFL season, and how betting will now be offered to football fans in many states throughout the country. Other sports are also keen to get in on the act though, as has been highlighted by the Philadelphia Flyers‘ new partnership with SugarHouse Casino.

The new partnership looks set to be an exciting one, and Valerie Camillo, President of Business Operations for the Wells Fargo Center and the Flyers is particularly looking forward to the deal, saying:

“With Pennsylvania on the forefront of legalized sports gaming, we and our SugarHouse partners are excited to elevate the game day experience at the Wells Fargo Center in a unique way.”

The COO of Rush Interactive – the operator of SugarHouse – also spoke of his excitement at the partnership, plus credited the enthusiasm for sports in the city of Philadelphia as being one of the major reasons why the partnership with the Flyers was pursued.

Upgrades to the Wells Fargo Center

While Sugarhouse Casino, as the name suggests, is best known for its casino offering, they’re actually soon rebranding to the Rivers Casino Philadelphia. This partnership will see the construction of two sports lounges within the Wells Fargo Center, as well as a physical sportsbook, allowing fans to bet on their favorite team while inside the arena.

The deal comes as the Wells Fargo Center pushes forward with its Transformation 2020 plan, which is seeing $265 million being spent on the center. This upgrade features many huge upgrades, including a VIP club and a brand-new scoreboard.

What’s in it for the Sportsbook?

The sportsbook will, of course, get a huge amount from the deal. Perhaps the most important thing will be the huge publicity they’ll receive though. Every Flyers game will see advertisments for the sports betting company, encouraging patrons to bet at the on-site sportsbook, or to head online to make their bets. With sports betting just starting to take off in the state, anything an operator can do to get more publicity is valuable.

There’s also a concerted drive to start targeting NHL fans, as previous seasons have shown that there’s not a huge amount of betting on the sport. Other sports, such as football, basketball and baseball, are far more popular with gamblers. This partnership is going to give SugarHouse an opportunity to target this untapped resource.

It should be mentioned that there seems to be no mention of SugarHouse working with the Philadelphia 76s, the basketball outfit also plying their trade within the building. This is because the 76s already have a partnership in place witrh Caesars Entertainment.

Other NHL Gambling Partnerships

This isn’t the first time an NHL team has partnered with a sports betting company. UK betting giants William Hill have partnerships with both the New Jersey Devils and the Las Vegas Golden Knights, and the NHL has now reversed its stance on sports betting, which had previously been unfavorable. In fact, the NHL itself has a partnership with William Hill, as well as with both MGM and FanDuel.
