Officials have announced that online sports betting in Kansas will launch in the early part of the coming month.

The announcement was made by the state governor, Laura Kelly, who confirmed that both retail and online sports betting would go live from early September. This will come as great news for sports fans across the state who will be able to make the most of the up-and-coming football season.

The announcement comes four months after legislation was approved that would allow the four commercial casinos in the state to offer sports betting. The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission also approved new sports betting rules in July, and these will need to be enforced and overseen by the Kansas Lottery.

A Solution that Makes Sense

According to reports, all four of the commercial casinos in Kansas can start offering sports betting facilities in early September. These casinos are the Boot Hill Casino and Resort, the Kansas Star Casino, the Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway, and the Kansas Crossing Casino and Hotel.

It is reported that a week prior to this, online sports betting operators that are already established will be able to roll out mobile sports betting services with one-year licenses.

Officials have said that the rollout of sports betting is a solution that makes sense for the state. The state governor said:

Legalizing sports betting is a common-sense solution that keeps Kansans’ money in Kansas and drives business to sporting events, casinos, restaurants, and other entertainment venues. I want to thank all our partners for working with us to get this done in time for football season.

The legislation means that people who are aged 21 and over will be able to place bets on a wide range of professional and college sports once everything goes live.

There are also provisions for people to be able to place bets in person at a range of retail locations further down the line. This will start with the sportsbooks that are to be located in the commercial casinos.

Great News for Sports Fans

The huge numbers of sports fans across the state will be thrilled with the news, as it means that they have just a few weeks left to wait before they can start placing bets on their favorite sports and teams. Moreover, it means that they can enjoy betting on the long-awaited football season if the launch of sports betting goes to plan.

The state itself will also have plenty to look forward to, as there will be some serious extra cash heading into state bank accounts as a result of the sports betting launch. Many states have benefitted financially since launching sports betting, and this is something that Kansas officials will no doubt be looking forward to.

It could also help to increase tourism if people head to the commercial casinos in the state in order to enjoy sports betting, and this is something that will benefit other local businesses as well as the state as a whole.
