It has been revealed that the Wisconsin governor, Tony Evers, has signed an agreement with the Oneida Nation that will see sports betting become available at tribal casinos and other venues. This brings the state a step closer to sports betting, which could mean a lot of extra money for the area as NFL season approaches.

This marks a historical move in the state, and it means that people in Wisconsin will be able to enjoy wagering on sports and other events. The state governor said that was only the third time that the compact had been amended and that it was the first time in the history of the state that event wagering would be allowed.

Bringing in More Tourism

There will be many benefits that the state can enjoy once sports betting goes live, and this includes bringing more tourism to the area. According to the American Gaming Association, there are many NFL stadiums within an hour of a casino, and this could really help to boost revenue.

Oneida Nation vice-chairman Brandon Stevens said:

There’s about a five to 12 percent profit in this industry and the main premise of having a sports wagering amenity, to a gaming facility is to bring more foot traffic to the area.

He also said that sports betting would continue to ensure more tourism dollars came to the local area, and this would have a positive impact on all businesses. He added that all areas of the state would eventually benefit in line with the growth and expansion of local businesses.

The move will also delight local sports fans who are eager to place bets on their favorite teams and sports. With the launch of sports betting at specified venues, fans will be able to enjoy ease and convenience when it comes to enjoying sports betting activities.

Not a Long Wait

Officials also hope that it will not be a long wait before sports fans can start placing their bets. According to Department of Administration secretary Joel Brennan, the Bureau of Indian Affairs has a month and a half to act, after which the agreement becomes more official.

For many states, the introduction of legalized sports betting has helped them to recoup some of the huge losses stemming from the global pandemic over the past 15 months. It has helped to boost state coffers as a result of gambling taxes and has also increased tourism, which has benefitted all businesses in the area.

A number of states have launched retail or mobile sports betting since the onset of the pandemic, and in some cases, have launched both. This has made a big difference to businesses in the states as well as to state funding and services.

Officials hope that this is something that will happen in Wisconsin, which like other states has experienced huge financial issues because of the impact of COVID-19. The boost that the move is likely to provide to businesses could eventually provide benefits to areas around the state.
