Indiana is less than a week away from launching its first online sportsbook – and Rush Street Interactive is the first company that will be accepting real money wagers from players in the state. The Indiana Gaming Commission announced that they’d officially given the company approval to launch their mobile sports betting app, and it’s coming next week.

Sara Gonso Tait – the Executive Director of Rush Street Interactive – said:

“Rush Street has substantially demonstrated to the satisfaction of the commission that its mobile sports wagering operation meets the requirements of Indiana Code Article 4-38, the Commission’s Emergency Regulations, and all Commission Directives related to sports wagering activities.”

The new mobile betting app in Indiana is the latest from Rush Street Interactive – a fairly well-known gambling company that also operates the sportsbook located at the French Lick Resort (also in Indiana.) According to the company, their new betting app will be made available throughout all of Indiana and will be offered to Android and iOS device owners. Unlike we’ve seen required in other states, users will not need to physically visit their land-based sportsbook first, removing one of the only barriers to entry that exist in the mobile betting world in the USA.

Is This the Start of a Betting Boom in Indiana?

Once the Rush Street Interactive sports betting app launches next week it will make the state the seventh in the United States to allow punters to place real money bets from their smartphones and tablet devices. The other states that also allow it include Iowa, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

It’s clear that Indiana is now going to be a desirable target for online gambling operators – and it’s said that William Hill, Caesars Entertainment and FanDuel will also be looking at receiving permission to launch their own mobile apps. All these companies currently have a significant land-based presence in Indiana.

In fact, the Indiana Gaming Commission has already granted licenses to PointsBet and The Stars Group – and both gambling operators will be able to operate ‘skins’ in the state. However, while they both have received their gambling license, they are yet to receive their vendor license – and this means that they’re not currently able to offer their services to punters.

Mobile Sports Betting Only?

Currently, Rush Street Interactive has stated that punters will only be able to place bets through their mobile app. It’s somewhat surprising to learn that they won’t – initially – be launching a desktop sportsbook, although we may well see one opening in the future.

Of course, Rush Street Interactive are no novices – they were the first to launch an online casino in New Jersey, called PlaySugarHouse.com, and just a couple of years later they became the first company to offer a fully integrated sportsbook and casino in the state. This means they know what they’re doing – and if their launch in Indiana goes to plan, it’s likely we’ll be seeing their name appearing more and more in the US online gambling industry.
