The New York Giants headed to Gillette Stadium for a Week 13 matchup against the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football. The Giants entered this matchup at 2-10 and had lost their last 6 games. The Patriots came in leading the AFC East at 10-2 and winning 9 straight games, off to one of their best starts since the Tom Brady era. Giants’ rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart made his return after missing the last two games due to a concussion he suffered against the Bears.
The Patriots opened the game with the ball and immediately leaned on running back Rhamondre Stevenson, who picked up a pair of strong gains to push New England into Giants territory. Quarterback Drake Maye connected with tight end Hunter Henry on a 9-yard completion to move the offense closer to the goal line. Once they reached 3rd-and-goal, Maye missed his pass to Stefon Diggs, forcing the Patriots to settle for a 22-yard field goal and an early 3–0 lead.
Special Teams Spark
Jaxson Dart and the Giants offense couldn’t find rhythm on their first possession. New York managed just one first down, coming on an 11-yard completion to Darius Slayton, before punting on 4th-and-7. That’s when the game swung in New England’s favor. Patriots’ returner Marcus Jones fielded the punt at the 6-yard line and exploded for a 94-yard touchdown. The stunning return gave the Patriots a quick 10–0 lead.
The Giants’ struggles continued their next possession, going three-and-out and giving the Patriots the ball right back. Drake Maye hit Hunter Henry on a 36-yard strike that put New England deep in scoring territory. On first and goal Maye threw a short touchdown pass to Kayshon Boutte from the 3-yard line. The Patriots extended their lead to 17–0 as their early dominance continued.
On the next New York drive Devin Singletary had a few tough gains to get the offense moving, and Jaxson Dart delivered the Giants’ first big play, throwing a 30-yard touchdown to Darius Slayton. The score cut the deficit to 17–7.
The Patriots responded by going to their ground attack, leaning on rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson. But it was Drake Maye who delivered the next blow. After setting up the drive with the run, Maye threw a deep ball of his own, connecting with Kyle Williams for a 33-yard touchdown. New England pushed its lead to 24–7 as the offense continued to roll.
Patriots Dominate First Half
On the kickoff, New York fumbled the ball and the Patriots pounced on the fumble, setting themselves up with a short field. New England capitalized with a field goal to extend the lead. After forcing another quick stop, the Patriots put together a late drive in the final minutes of the half, adding one more field goal as time expired. New England headed into halftime firmly in control, leading 30–7.
The Giants opened the second half looking to climb back into the game. Jaxson Dart connected on a pair of short throws to get the offense moving. Facing 4th-and-6, New York kept the offense on the field, and Dart’s pass to Theo Johnson was incomplete, turning the ball over on downs.
Taking over the Patriots moved the ball down the field behind a balanced attack. However, the drive came up empty when kicker Andy Borregales pushed a 45-yard field goal wide.
The Giants marched downfield as Tyrone Tracy Jr. broke into Patriots territory. Facing 3rd-and-6, Devin Singletary took a direct snap and burst 22 yards for a touchdown. New York followed it up with a successful two-point conversion, with Jaxson Dart finding Darius Slayton in the end zone. The Giants narrowed the deficit to 30–15.
After a series of back-to-back punts, the Patriots shifted into clock-management mode, driving downfield before adding a 23-yard field goal to extend their lead. The Giants’ final possession came up empty, as they ran out of time and eventually turned the ball over on downs, sealing the game. New England would win this one 33-15.
