Both online and mobile sports betting from PointsBet are now available in Iowa. Anyone within the state can now access these sports betting facilities, and registration can be performed remotely, meaning those looking to bet don’t even need to leave their own home in order to sign up. This means that the current situation with COVID-19 will not stand in the way of sports fans signing up to place their bets online or via mobile devices.

Over the past year, online and mobile sports betting has become increasingly popular due to the global pandemic causing casino closures and restrictions.

The launch comes at the right time, as the country is now in the grip of a second wave of the pandemic. This means people are far more likely to want to engage in online and mobile betting than go to retail establishments.

A Range of Promotions from PointsBet

The launch of online and mobile sports betting from PointsBet in the state was confirmed earlier this week, and the sportsbook operator has launched a range of promotions. This will help to bring more sports fans on board to ensure the provider gets off to a good start in Iowa.

Johnny Aitken, CEO of PointsBet USA, said that the state of Iowa continues to be a priority for the company, before adding:

We are fortunate to work alongside terrific partners in Catfish Bend Casino. We both are tremendously excited for what is effectively a second launch of Iowa sports betting with remote registration now in play.

He also said that the platforms were extremely easy to use and sign up to and would provide sports fans with a range of options and exclusive features. Aitken also claims that the PointsBet platforms offer the most bet types in the world, spanning a range of major sports. This includes the four major US sports – NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB.

Complementing the Existing PointsBet Retail Sportsbook

PointsBet opened its retail sportsbook at Catfish Bend Casino back in the summer of 2019, and this has proven very successful.

Of course, it was impacted heavily by the COVID-19 closures last year, and this led to huge losses for the operator, as there was no online alternative in the state at that time. This meant that PointsBet was unable to take any bets in Iowa during the several months the casinos were closed.

With the launch of online and mobile sports betting from PointsBet, any similar situations that may occur this year will not have such a huge impact on the sportsbook. If casinos do end up being closed again, sports fans will now be able to take to digital technology to both register and place their bets on favorite sports and teams.

At present, there is a second wave of the pandemic sweeping the globe. As infection and death rates continue to soar, many hospitality businesses, including casinos, could be forced to close again. However, like the first time around, online sports betting and gambling will help to keep the industry afloat.
