A new bill being moved through by New Jersey lawmakers could result in big changes to the way in which sports betting operators advertise their platforms, promotions, and products. The bill, S4021, is authored by Senator Joe Cryan, and its aim is to stop sports betting operators as well as casino operators from using ads that could be construed as deceptive or fraudulent.

In addition to this, the bill highlights a range of other restrictions that would be imposed on sports betting operators, including ones impacting the audiences that they can target with their advertising. There are also a few other bills that are currently in the Assembly, all of which are aimed at increasing responsibility and aiding the state’s commitment to responsible gaming.

New Jersey Eager to Promote Responsible Gaming

This latest bill, along with others in the Assembly, hopes to help New Jersey enhance its responsible gaming policies. They could help to reduce the risk of gambling addiction arising among gamblers and bettors, and they will help to ensure sports betting operators adhere to strict regulations to help reduce the number of gambling addiction problems.

S4021 not only wants to tackle irresponsible and deceptive advertising but also wants to ensure that sports betting operators do not target people aged under 21 or those who are on self-exclusion lists. Recently, state officials, including Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin, announced the creation of support tools and resources to help promote responsible gambling and reduce problem gambling. Platkin said:

New Jersey has always been a national leader in gaming, as the first to allow casino gambling outside Nevada and the first to launch Internet gaming. And we are now focusing on making our pioneering state the standard in responsible gaming practices.

He added that the steps that had been taken by the state so far showed how committed New Jersey lawmakers were to helping people with gambling problems.

Similar bills that are also being considered at present include A5226, which aims to stop sports betting operators from partnering with colleges and universities in the state. In addition, bill AR168 aims to reduce the number of pro-gambling advertisements in New Jersey.
