Week 11 of the NFL season kicked off with the New York Jets taking on the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football. The Jets started the season 0-7 before winning their last 2 games to move them to 2-7 on the season. The Patriots, on the other hand, have been unstoppable all season. They come in at 8-2 and have won 7 straight games coming into TNF.

Fields Starts Fast, But Pats Take Control

The Jets opened with the kickoff, though their offense has endured a difficult season marked by quarterback shuffling and key injuries. Tonight, Justin Fields would get the start at quarterback for New York, but he’d be without his main wide receiver, Garrett Wilson, who landed on the IR due to a knee injury. Fields still managed to find momentum on this opening drive, completing his first pass to tight end Mason Taylor.

The Jets continued the drive by leaning heavily on the ground game, with Justin Fields and Breece Hall combining for a couple of runs that pushed the offense deep into scoring territory. Once inside the red zone, Fields connected with newly acquired wide receiver Adonai Mitchell for a 10-yard gain. Mitchell, brought in during the trade that sent Sauce Gardner to the Colts, helped set New York up at the 5-yard line. From there, Fields finished the job himself, keeping the ball on a designed run and powering into the end zone to give the Jets an early 7–0 lead.

The Patriots offense took the field next, led by MVP candidate Drake Maye, who has been the engine of New England’s offense all season. On the opening drive, Maye came out firing, repeatedly turning to Stefon Diggs for short gains. The Patriots then turned to their rookie running back, TreVeyon Henderson. He capped off the drive with a smooth 7-yard touchdown run, pulling New England even and tying the game at 7.

TreVeyon Henderson Has A Night

After the defense forced a Jets three-and-out, New England went right back to work. Drake Maye continued his sharp start, hitting tight end Hunter Henry for two big gains, one for 23 yards and another for 12, to push the Patriots into Jets territory. Maye then connected with Mack Hollins on back-to-back receptions, setting the Patriots up at the New York 7-yard line. From there, it was all the same. TreVeyon Henderson took the handoff and powered in for his second touchdown of the night, giving the Patriots a 14–7 lead.

As the second half got underway, both teams exchanged punts while searching for momentum. New England eventually broke through when Drake Maye orchestrated a 69-yard drive, stacking chunk plays through the air with gains of 17, 21, and 18. Maye finished the drive by finding rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson on a 6-yard touchdown pass, Henderson’s third score of the game. Coming in with just two career touchdowns, the rookie had already surpassed that total. The Patriots stretched their lead to 21–7.

Jets Fight Back, But Mistakes Kill Momentum

The Jets answered immediately. Justin Fields guided the offense down the field by spreading the ball around, connecting with John Metchie, Jeremy Ruckert, and even Breece Hall out of the backfield. The balanced attack helped New York march deep into scoring range. Fields eventually went back to Metchie, hitting him in stride for a 22-yard touchdown. The Jets trimmed the deficit to just seven, making it a 21–14 game.

The fourth quarter belonged to New England. The Patriots added a pair of field goals to extend their lead, while the Jets’ offense never found the spark it needed for a comeback. Dropped passes, stalled drives, and a costly fumble by Justin Fields only added to New York’s frustrations. With the Jets unable to generate momentum, the Patriots drained the clock on their final possession and wrapped up a 27–14 victory.

Final Stats and Takeaways

  • TreVeyon Henderson: 93 Total Yards, 3 TDs
  • Drake Maye: 25/34, 281 Yards, 1 TD
  • Stefon Diggs: 9 Receptions, 105 Yards

The Jets fall to 2-8 on the season and to last place in the AFC East. New York will travel to Baltimore in week 12 to take on the Ravens. As for the Patriots, they improve to 9-2 with the best record in the NFL and their 8th straight win. They will travel to Cincinnati in week 12 to take on the Bengals, who will still be without Joe Burrow. While many expected the Bills to claim the AFC East, the division now looks like it’s the Patriots’ title to lose.
