We are just a few days out from the start of the 2023 NASCAR season. Up first, we have the Daytona 500 kicking things off. Who will be the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Champion? The winner of the first race of the season might give us an indication of what to expect. Let’s review each driver on the grid together with the odds provided by the best Daytona 500 betting sites.

Unlike other motorsport series, the NASCAR series kicks the year off with its most prestigious event. The odds & lines for the Daytona 500 have been available since mid-November at some sportsbooks and have seen very little variation since opening. By virtue of the way racing events take place, we expect very little in the way of drastic odds changes until the starting grid is announced. To further this point about the volatility of motorsports, Rookie Austin Cindric beat 33/1 longshot odds to take the checkered flag at the 2022 Daytona 500.

Daytona 500 Driver Preview

Denny Hamlin

Among the active driver roster, Denny Hamlin holds the most Daytona 500 wins at 3. We don’t expect too much movement on the odds on his no. 11 car since they were announced back in November. The Tampa resident will be looking to make history by securing a historic 4th win at the Daytona 500.

Ryan Blaney

It seems only a matter of time until Ryan Blaney takes the checkered flag at the Daytona 500. He is listed with the favorites thanks to his scoring two runner-up finishes at past editions of the race. His no.12 car is a favorite among bettors thanks to the consistency that he is now known for. Despite not winning a race last season, Ryan Blaney still made it to the playoffs on points.

Kyle Busch

Kyle Busch has some of the widest odd margins of any of the drivers at the Indy 500 at the moment. Despite his long and storied career, Kyle Busch has never won a Daytona 500. Because Busch is capable of putting in strong margins and has yet never won a Daytona 500, the odds will vary wildly on him. We look forward to seeing if 2023 will be his year to get the checkered flag at the 500 finally.

Austin Cindric

Austin Cindric made heads turn when he won the Daytona 500 in his debut race. Despite the 33/1 odds, he pulled out all the stops to grab the win. The sportsbooks seemed to have wisened up to the newcomer’s skills and currently have him listed way higher than they did last year . We predict him staying at this range unless he fails to qualify, which will lead to a drastic shift in the odds. Like Austin, there’s another rookie on the grid who will be hoping to mimic his performance in last year’s race.

Joey Logano

Despite winning the 2022 series championship, Joey Logano has only one Daytona 500 victory to his name. Despite the record, the books still have him listed as one of the favorites for this year’s edition. Logano’s races at the 500 seem to be cursed, as his last three outings yielded an average result of 19th position. We don’t see the odds shifting too much, as bettors might be gun-shy due to his history with the Daytona 500. In our opinion, it’s unwise to completely rule out a champion from winning, no matter what the history books say.

Chase Elliott

Chase Elliott had a highlight reel consisting of 5 race wins in 2022, setting the series record for most wins in a single season. However, he is yet to win the Daytona 500, despite attempting it 7 times. The sportsbooks seem to have recognized this pattern and firmly listed him alongside other top picks. Like the other favorites listed above, we can expect that his odds will remain largely stable unless something drastic happens.

Daytona 500 Outside Pick

Ty Gibbs

If Gibbs is to win the Daytona 500 in 2022, it will be only the second time in history that a rookie wins in his debut season. Sportsbooks seem to have a divided view of how he might perform, with a wide variance seen in his odds. We hope that Ty Gibbs can pull it off, as it will set the mod for a spectacular start to the season.
