The Tennessee sports betting market has recently expanded again with the addition of two new operators that have now received approval. This means that sports fans in the state will now be able to enjoy greater choice, and they can look forward to the various promotions that the newly approved operators may be offering.

The Tennessee Education Lottery has provided approval to Barstool and also the social betting app, Wagr. The two operators have been given the go-ahead to go live, and this means that the state will now have a total of nine sportsbooks offering facilities to sports fans. The two operators will be joining existing operators such as DraftKings, FanDuel, and BetMGM, among others.

More About the New Additions

One of the new additions to the Tennessee sports betting arena is Barstool, and this operator has been steadily expanding its presence and has ambitions to continue doing so over the remainder of this year. By the end of this year, the operator hopes to be live in ten states across the country.

Now that the Tennessee launch has gone ahead, it means that sports fans in another state will now be able to enjoy using the operator for their bets. The owner of Barstool, Penn National, has said that it hopes to get the sportsbook up and running in as many states as it can ready for the NFL season this fall.

The other new operator that has been approved, Wagr, is new to the sports betting arena. Nevertheless, it is hoping to accrue a large following as a result of its simplicity and functionality. The app is described as a:

Social, simple, and inclusive betting experience built for fans.

In addition, officials from Wagr said that the focus for its platform is the social side of sports betting, as players using the app can bet with family and friends. If the user does not have anyone to bet with, the app has a service that will match them with another gambler within the state.

Sports Betting Activity Dropped in June

Like many other states across the country, Tennessee experienced a drop in mobile sports betting handle in July compared to the previous month. This is a state where all sports betting is online-only, so this makes up 100 percent of its handle.

According to figures that were recently released, the mobile sports betting handle for July came in at $144.6 million. This reflected a drop of more than 17 percent compared to June when the handle came in at $174.5 million.

Tennessee is not the only state to have suffered a drop in sports betting handle over recent months. Since March Madness, there has been a slowdown in the sports schedule, and this will continue until football season begins.

As a result, the summer is traditionally a much slower period for sports betting operators because of the lack of major sports events to bet on. However, once football season is in full swing, this situation should improve dramatically.
