With many states having legalized online sports betting over the past year, fans are now able to benefit from easier access to sportsbook facilities. One of the states that recently launched mobile sports betting is Michigan, with a number of sportsbooks now available for sports fans to choose from.

A total of 10 online sportsbooks were approved to go live at the end of last week as the state launched mobile sports betting.

PointsBet was the final one to be licensed and just about made it for the launch date, joining nine others that had already been licensed. Sports fans now have a wide range of options when it comes to placing their bets.

Retail Sportsbooks Closed within Weeks of Opening

The move to launch mobile sports betting is an important milestone for the state, and it will bring in money for both sportsbooks and the state, as well as provide sports fans with entertainment.

In March 2020, the state launched retail sportsbooks. However, just weeks after the launch, the COVID-19 outbreak resulted in casino and retail sportsbook closures. This meant that retail sportsbooks were barely off the ground before they had to close weeks later.

With the state now providing access to mobile sports betting, this is an issue that can be avoided in the future even if retail establishments are forced to close again. The second wave of the pandemic could result in more closures, but sports fans will still be able to place bets now that the state offers digital sports betting facilities.

A Choice of Mobile Sportsbooks

With 10 sportsbooks going live on the launch date, sports fans in the state will have no shortage of options when it comes to wagering. Many of the sportsbooks are also offering special promotions and deals to bring new customers on board.

Johnny Aitken, the CEO of PointsBet USA said:

Launching in Michigan is truly a special moment for PointsBet and presents a tremendous opportunity we are excited to attack alongside our partners in the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.

He also said that the PointsBet sportsbook aimed to provide customers with a variety of sports betting options, state-of-the-art technology, and a memorable experience.

Financial Relief for the State

When retail sportsbooks were forced to close last year due to the global pandemic, operators lost out on a lot of revenue. However, it was not just the sportsbooks that suffered huge financial losses. The state also experienced financial devastation due to the closure of many businesses, including casinos and sportsbooks.

Having digital sports betting facilities in place means that operators and the state can recoup some of their financial losses. In addition, they can avoid the problem arising again in the event that further closures are required due to the second wave of the global pandemic.

The move to legalize online sports betting in the state will, therefore, come as a huge relief for state officials, as well as for sportsbook operators and sports fans.
