Sports betting fans across Michigan can look forward to an exciting start to the New Year, as it has been confirmed that online sports betting should be launching by the middle of January. According to data, 15 sportsbooks have already received approval ready for the up-and-coming launch of online betting, including some of the sports betting giants, such as DraftKings and FanDuel.

The launch of online sports betting in the state will provide sports fans and bettors with convenience, ease, and entertainment. There will be more opportunities for those who want to place bets on their favorite sports and teams. In addition, with 15 sportsbooks already approved, there will be a lot of choices for those looking to place bets.

Great Deals and Offers Already Launched

As is usually the case prior to a launch, some sportsbooks that have been approved are already offering special deals and promotions for those who sign up. Leading the way are DraftKings and FanDuel, which have both been offering special promos and offers for those who register before the official launch of online sports betting in the state.

The launch of online sports betting also means that sports fans in the state will not have to worry about visiting a retail sportsbook facility in order to place bets. This is something that has become difficult over recent months due to casino closures and limitations stemming from the COVID-19 global pandemic, plus there are many not feeling confident enough to venture to retail establishments yet. There will also be no requirement to visit a physical location in order to sign up for online sports betting.

A sports betting regulation expert from Oklahoma State University, John Holden, said:

For the past few months, sports betting has been available in some casinos though, of course, access to those casinos has been limited over the past few months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He added that the launch of mobile sports betting, along with the range of sportsbooks approved, meant that people in Michigan could enjoy easy access to betting facilities. Holden also said that this could result in more engagement.

Retail Sportsbooks and Casinos Continue to Suffer

While the launch of online sports betting comes as great news for fans and sportsbook operators, retail facilities and casinos continue to experience issues due to the pandemic. Some sportsbooks will now be able to recoup some of the huge losses by offering online facilities.

Casinos were closed back in March last year when the first wave of the pandemic swept the country. After several months, they were allowed to reopen, but there were strict measures and restrictions put into place. Also, many people were wary about going into casinos to place bets because of the ongoing risks posed by COVID-19.

With the ability to bet online, consumers will no longer have to worry about this risk to place bets. Sportsbooks can also minimize the negative financial impact of further closures that could come about due to the ongoing second wave of the pandemic.
