The state of Michigan is set to join the growing number of states offering online sports betting and gaming this week. As the Super Bowl LV event approaches, the state has confirmed that it is now ready to authorize the launch, which means that sports fans across the state will be able to enjoy the thrill and convenience of placing bets online.

Many have been eagerly awaiting this day, and both fans and sportsbook operators are excited about the opportunities it might bring. With casinos across the state and country having suffered huge financial losses over the past year due to COVID-19, many believe that this will be an invaluable source of additional revenue.

Eliminating the Need to Spend Money Elsewhere

One resident in the area said that he was thrilled about the approval of online sports betting in the state. He said that it was exciting because it meant that sports fans would no longer have to go to places like Las Vegas and New Jersey to enjoy sports betting. He said:

I’ve been waiting for years for online sports betting to arrive in Michigan. With online sports betting, there’s no need to spend extra money in places like Vegas or New Jersey when much of the allure those places bring, can now be reached from your own couch.

Over recent weeks, officials from the Michigan Gaming Board have been working to get online sportsbook applicants approved ready for the big launch. They have now authorized the first wave of applicants.

The board also said that while some applicants had been given approval for both online sports betting and online gaming, others had received approval for one or the other. In addition, a fresh round of applications will now come up for review, which means more operators will be added further down the line.

Time for Testing Platforms

Officials have stated that the authorization for the launch of online sports betting will be this week. There will then be around one week for operators to continue testing and adjusting their platforms before the first group is officially launched.

Once the launch goes live, sports betting fans in the state will be able to benefit from easy access to sportsbooks. With the global pandemic still causing havoc across the world, it will come as a relief to many sports betting fans who prefer to place bets from the safety and comfort of their own homes rather than having to travel.

A Lifeline for Casinos

Under state laws, the tribal and commercial casinos in the state will be able to offer both types of gambling online. This could prove to be a huge relief and a valuable lifeline to casinos. After what has been a devastating year due to casino closures and stringent restrictions, many casinos have suffered huge financial losses.

Many casino officials will, therefore, be hoping that online sports betting and gambling will help them to claw back some of the losses they have suffered over the past year.
