Several businesses in Washington DC are now offering sports betting facilities to customers, and many others may jump on board in the near future.

This comes as businesses have been allowed to partner with the DC Lottery operator, GamBetDC. The move could result in a surge in sports betting activity in the area, which will have a positive impact in terms of finances.

Since the end of last week, a range of businesses have started to offer access to sports betting kiosks where sports fans in the area can place a bet while visiting the businesses. These include businesses such as bars and restaurants, some of which have already held special events to launch their sports betting offerings.

Self-Service Kiosks for Over-18s

The businesses that are signing up for the partnership with the Lottery will be offering access to self-service kiosks. These can be used by anyone aged 18 and over, and they will be cash-only kiosks. Among the businesses that have signed up are Ben’s Next Door, Lou’s City Bar, and the Dirty Water Sports Bar.

The good news is that those looking to use the new facilities will not need to have an account set up with GamBetDC.

The kiosks are easy to use, as sports fans simply insert their money, select the event they want to bet on, and then enter how much they wish to bet. A ticket is then issued, and winnings up to the value of $600 can be cashed out at the kiosks.

Anyone who is lucky enough to win more than this amount will need to head to the lottery headquarters in Washington DC with identification in order to claim their money. This can be done up to 180 days after the issue of the winning ticket.

DC Lottery director of marketing and communications Nicole Jordan spoke about the launch of sports betting in the area. She said:

Together, GamBetDC and these local businesses are going to prove that betting on DC is always a good decision.

Businesses that sign up to the partnership will be able to benefit because they will get a five percent cut of every sports bet made, and they also get a one percent commission when winners cash their money out.

A Boon for Sports Betting in the Area

This is a move that has delighted businesses, the Lottery, and sports fans across Washington DC. It is something that can prove beneficial to all concerned, as it will help to boost sports betting activity and state coffers, allow businesses to make some extra cash, and give sports fans more flexibility when it comes to where they place their bets.

While many businesses have already launched sports betting last week, there may be many others that decide to sign up for the partnership. With businesses having suffered huge losses over the past 16 months due to COVID-19, this represents an exciting opportunity for many to boost their income with ease and convenience.
