Iowa State started the season off strong with a 12-game win streak. However, they followed that up by going 8-12 down the stretch. They will need to turn it around to have a chance against a good LSU team.
LSU has a similar story, starting the season off 12-0 before going 10-11 over the last 21 games. However, they had big wins against conference powerhouses like Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama.

Iowa State came in like a lion and went out like a lamb, and without some clutch wins throughout their season likely would’ve been seeded even lower than 11th. The Cyclones got obliterated by Texas Tech in the first round of their Big 12 Tournament matchup, losing 72-41.
Iowa State will need to rely on their solid defense if they’re to keep this game close. Their opponents only score 93 points against them per 100 possessions, which is good for 29th in the country in terms of this defensive metric.
ISU also needs Izaiah Brockington to shoulder most of the offensive load as he’s done most of the season. Brockington is averaging 17.2 points and 7.1 rebounds across 34.5 minutes per game.
The Cyclones are a terrible free-throw shooting team. They only make 68.4% of their shots from the charity stripe. This is only good for 283rd in the nation, so making foul shots will be crucial.

The Tigers have the fifth-best defense in the country and will look to stifle ISU’s inferior offense. However, LSU’s offense isn’t great either and will need some shots to fall to advance.
Louisiana State doesn’t shoot three-pointers very well, so they will look to pound the ball inside to forwards Tari Eason and Darius Days.
Eason is averaging 16.9 points and 6.7 rebounds across 24.6 minutes per game.
Days is averaging 13.7 points and 7.7 rebounds across 29.6 minutes per game.
LSU is also far better than ISU at the foul line, so the Tigers need their two big men to draw fouls and make free throws.
