J.J. Spaun won the 125th US Open at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. He took $4.3 million from the tournament’s total purse of $21.5 million.

A Historic Win Sealed with a Stunning Final Putt

On June 15th, 2025, J.J. Spaun claimed a dramatic victory at the 125th US Open with a 64-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole, securing his first major title. He became the only golfer to finish with a total score of 1-under par for the tournament.

Spaun overcame a tough course, a rather unpleasant start, including five bogeys in his first six holes, and challenging weather conditions that led to a weather delay. Sam Burns led going into the final round at 4-under but struggled on Sunday, finishing tied for fourth.

Robert MacIntyre finished runner-up, two shots behind Spaun, with Viktor Hovland in third place. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler started the day tied for 11th but could not mount a comeback, finishing well behind the leaders. The defending champion, Bryson DeChambeau, missed the cut.

“What a historic finish after a really bad luck start today. You showed real guts. Congratulations J.J. Spaun, National Open Champion!” – Tom Watson, American professional golf player, posted on X
