With the football season now in full swing, people around the US are flocking to not only watch the sporting action but also to place wagers in their droves.

In fact, according to a report from the geolocation and security company, GeoComply, there is a high level of enthusiasm for NFL betting in the United States, and no signs of this slowing down.

This is always a very exciting time of the year in the world of sports, and the season attracts bets from people around the country.

Huge numbers of sports fans place bets online or at in-person sportsbooks, and the GeoComply data shows that betting activity has increased hugely since the same period last year. This comes after the release of figures for sports betting activity from 2-10 September 2023.

A Huge Increase in Sports Betting Activity

The report shows that since the same period last year, sports betting activity was up by an impressive 56 percent. The results from the research were posted by GeoComply on its website.

The company said:

As the most popular sports league in the US, the start of the NFL season is one of the most important times of the year for online sports betting operators. With new state markets open and bettors finally able to wager on their favorite NFL teams, fan engagement and regulated sportsbook activity has never been higher.

Officials went on to say that online sports betting operators tend to make around 60 percent of their revenue during the NFL season, which makes it one of the biggest events of the sports calendar. It is hugely profitable for sportsbooks, and with so many states now having legalized sports betting, the numbers and revenues keep climbing.

Many sportsbooks are said to have enjoyed impressive figures during the first week of NFL betting. The number of transactions logged by GeoComply for the first week of the season came in at 242.3 million, which reflects an increase of more than 80 million compared to the same period in 2022.

In addition, the company reported that 1.1 million new accounts were created during that week, which was an increase of 40 percent compared to the same period last year.

The data showed that there was an impressive number of new account creations in younger sports betting markets, including Massachusetts, Ohio, and Maryland. Ohio saw 133,000 new accounts being created, Maryland secured 61,000 new accounts, and Massachusetts saw the creation of 59,000 new accounts.

Motivation for Non-Betting States

Officials from GeoComply said that the figures from the most recent report should be more than enough motivation for non-betting states to move forward with legalizing sports betting. The level of sports betting during the season brings in huge amounts of tax revenue for betting states, and this is something that non-betting states should consider, according to GeoComply.

The company also pointed out that continued legalization of sports betting across the country could help to reduce problems such as illegal betting.
