There may be some good news for Android device users who are also sports betting fans. It has been revealed recently that Google could be making changes to its policies that will enable Android device users to download a range of sports betting apps. This means that they will no longer have to do this through individual sportsbook websites.

Although these apps were not banned by Google previously, the process was a complicated and inefficient one. This meant that sports betting fans had to go directly through sportsbook websites to download the apps rather than through the Google Play Store. Changes to policies mean that this issue could be rectified by the start of March.

Real Money Gambling Apps Allowed

According to the Google developer site, sports betting apps such as those from DraftKings, FanDuel, and Barstool are allowed as long as they meet the necessary requirements. Policies were updated last week to reflect this, and changes will be made to ensure the process of accessing sports betting apps on Android devices directly from the Play Store becomes easier.

On the site, Google states:

We allow real-money gambling apps, ads related to real-money gambling and daily fantasy sports apps that meet certain requirements.

Google’s main rival, Apple, has made sports betting apps easy to access via the iOS App Store, and this means that those using Apple devices can already get the sports betting apps they need with ease. However, with the Google Play Store, sports fans have had to download the apps elsewhere in order to enjoy mobile sports betting.

Google has always taken a strict approach when it comes to gaming companies, and this includes certain requirements when it comes to advertising. According to reports, various requirements must be met for gaming companies to place ads through Google. This includes ensuring their ads do not target minors, requirements relating to location, and displaying information about responsible gaming.

Responding to Popularity of Mobile Sports Betting

According to some, Google plans to make it easier and more practical to download sports betting apps in response to the popularity of mobile sports betting. Since the outbreak of the global pandemic early last year, more and more people have been turning to online sportsbooks to place bets.

In addition to this, more states have now approved mobile and online sports betting over the past year, which means that there will be a further boost in users. By failing to improve efficiency, Google stood to lose out on the rising number of people downloading these apps. However, by making changes, they can provide easy access to the many people who are eager to use these apps.

With the country firmly in the grip of a second wave of the global pandemic, the use of mobile sports betting apps is set to continue rising. More and more people are likely to use digital technology to continue sports betting, particularly if casinos and retail sportsbooks are forced to close again due to rising infection rates.
