Week 10 of the NFL Season finished off with the Philadelphia Eagles taking on the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football at Lambeau Field. The Eagles came in at 6-2 and 1st place in the NFC East. As for Green Bay, they came in at 5-2-1 after losing last week in an upset loss to the Panthers. With the season that these two are having, it’d be no surprise if they met again in the playoffs and if one of them were representing the NFC in the Super Bowl.
The opening kickoff was taken by the Packers, but after two first downs on the drive, the Packers punted. Philadelphia’s opening drive looked very promising as they drove 77 yards on multiple completions from quarterback Jalen Hurts. The Eagles’ offense was able to work all the way down to the Green Bay 24-yard line until Hurts fumbled on a scramble, which was recovered by Packers’ cornerback Keisean Nixon.
The next 6 drives of the game ended in punts, with 4 of them coming as a 3-and-out. The entire first half was a defensive battle back and forth. The Packers’ final drive of the first half ended on a sack from Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dean, who also forced and recovered a fumble on the sack. The first half ended with 213 total yards of offense from both teams combined. The game went into halftime still tied 0-0, marking the first Monday Night Football matchup with a scoreless first half since Ravens vs. Browns in 2009.
Second Half Battle
The second half got started with the Eagles getting the first possession. The drive opened with a nice run from Saquon Barkley for 7 yards. Jalen Hurts then found his most reliable target of the night, tight end Dallas Goedert, for back-to-back catches of 5 and 22 yards. After a couple more short runs and another catch from Goedert, the Eagles finally reached the red zone for the first time on Monday night. Philadelphia ended up facing a 4th down and opted to take the field goal. Kicker Jake Elliott hit the 39-yard field goal for the first points of the game, giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead.
Jordan Love and the Packers offense had a chance to respond on the following drive. They leaned on the legs of their running back, Josh Jacobs, to pick up yards on the ground. Green Bay was able to work the ball all the way to the Eagles 41 41-yard line, where they faced a 3rd and 9. Love would throw an incompletion where wide receiver Romeo Doubs just dropped the ball. The Packers now faced a decision on whether to attempt a 58-yard field goal to tie or go for it on 4th down. Head coach Matt LaFleur rolled the dice and keep the offense on the field, where Jordan Love threw another incompletion, turning the ball over on downs.
The Eagles had a chance to extend their lead with excellent field position, but their drive stalled quickly as they went three-and-out. As Green Bay got the ball at the end of the third quarter, they had moved into Philadelphia territory. Jordan Love’s accuracy issues remained, as he had back-to-back incompletions, forcing another Packers punt.
Eagles Finally Punch it in
The Eagles’ offense finally woke up on their next drive, where Hurts found Saquan Barkley on a short pass that would lead to 41 total yards. The very next play, Jalen Hurts delivered a deep pass to DeVonta Smith for a 36-yard touchdown, giving the Eagles a 10-0 lead.
The Packers responded right back by driving 75 yards down the field on 7 completions from Jordan Love. They worked their way to the Philadelphia 6-yard line, where running back Josh Jacobs punched in the score, bringing the Packers only down 3.
The Eagles now had the ball with 5 minutes left, and a big 16-yard catch from DeVonta Smith moved the chains. The drive ended as Hurts had back-to-back incompletions with 2 minutes left. Green Bay now had a chance with 2 minutes to go down 3. The drive would end on a 4th and 1 where Josh Jacobs fumbled, giving the Eagles the ball to run out most of the clock. The Packers had one last chance with a final 64-yard field goal attempt, which never stood a chance, missing the kick. The Eagles win 10-7.
Final Stats and Takeaways
- DeVonta Smith: 69 yards, 1 TD
- Josh Jacobs: 108 yards, 1 TD
The Eagles improve to 7-2 on the season following the win and will take on the Detroit Lions next week. The Packers fall to 5-3-1 on the season and will face the Giants next week on the road.
