DraftKings, a leading name in digital sports entertainment and gaming, has introduced Pick6, a unique, brand-new peer-to-peer fantasy sports game. This exciting new addition to the fantasy sports scene, which officially launched on December 6, 2023, is currently available in six states: Maryland, Minnesota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

The game’s highly unique and is designed to appeal to players thanks to its simple gameplay mechanic, where players build a lineup of 2-6 athletes from different teams, predicting whether they will score more or less than a pre-set statistic.

A Gray Legal Framework

DraftKings’ Pick6 game is being released despite some controversies involving two of the online gambling company’s competitors, PrizePicks and Underdog Fantasies. According to legislators and regulators, these companies had been offering DFS games closely resembling sports betting in states that don’t allow sports betting.

For example, Underdog operates in Georgia, Florida, and California – none of which have legalized competitive sports betting markets.

DraftKings also has caught the attention of regulators; Pick6 has now been launched in six states, thus far – of which only two allow mobile sports betting. It’s unclear how this will pan out in the long run.

Differentiating Itself from Competitors

Pick6’s launch marks DraftKings’ venture into an alternative type of Daily Fantasy Sports, sometimes referred to simply as DFS. However, unlike those from leading competitors – PrizePicks and Underdog Fantasy – Pick6 aims to stand out by focusing on a peer-to-peer format.

This means that instead of competing against the house, players are betting against each other. The game’s structure means the number of players is limited to 150 entries per round, with the prize pool distributed based on the accuracy of players’ predictions. If multiple players correctly predict a similar number of outcomes, the prize payout for that tier is split evenly among them.

DraftKings’ Chief Product Officer, Corey Gottlieb, highlighted the company’s decade-long commitment to innovation in fantasy sports. He emphasized that Pick6 exemplifies this innovative spirit, being a homegrown product that leverages simplicity for a fun and engaging player experience.

Aside from the core gameplay, Pick6 also offers additional features like a dynamic “My Picks” functionality, which allows players to monitor their submitted, live, and finalized picks. The interface also includes lineup edits, the ability to add funds, and real-time performance tracking. The app, which is separate from DraftKings’ main application, is available for both iOS and Android devices.

Progressive Parlay Also on the Horizon

In addition to their standard Pick6, DraftKings is also planning to introduce Progressive Parlay, a new feature in its sports betting product. The operator said:

Progressive Parlay is a regulated sports betting wager made against the house that involves placing a parlay bet on player props, with a chance to win even if one or more legs of the parlay lose.

The launch of Progressive Parlay, which allows bettors to win even if one or more legs of their parlay bet fail, could be just a few weeks away, according to comments previously made by DraftKings CEO Jason Robins.
