In an unexpected turn of events that has left Formula 1 enthusiasts up in arms, the construction of the HG2 grandstand for the upcoming inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix has been abruptly canceled. This surprise announcement was delivered to ticket holders recently via the F1 Las Vegas app, leaving affected fans desperate for answers.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix Service Team blamed an unforeseen ‘sightline issue’ as the reason behind the sudden decision, leaving ticket holders frustrated and non-the-wiser.

The HG2 grandstand, which was to be situated in the West Harmon Zone by Google Chrome, was promoted as offering ‘incredible views’ of the Harmon Straight and the pit lane entry, making it a superb spot for racing fans.

Fans Worried About Alternative Option Being Offered

With tickets for the HG2 grandstand ranging from $1,500 to $2,826, including food and drinks, fans are now questioning the value of the alternative option that has been offered by Formula 1.

Instead of having tickets refunded, ticket holders have been promised what was described as an ‘improved ticketing option’. According to F1 officials, this includes assigned seating with unobstructed views and access to the T-Mobile Zone at Sphere, featuring fan activations and live entertainment.

However, with T-Mobile Zone grandstand tickets still available for $1,169 through Ticketmaster, many sports fans are now left wondering whether the alternative that is being offered matches up with the premium price that they initially paid for the canceled grandstand.

In addition, the relocation of fans to an area that is approximately two miles north has left many people feeling worried about the viability and convenience of their other race weekend plans, as it could potentially disrupt accommodation and dining arrangements.

According to reports, many people are now questioning how such a ‘sightline issue’ could have been overlooked by the F1 planning team. Some have said that this is particularly puzzling given that renderings of the track clearly indicate the presence of pedestrian bridges that would obstruct views from the HG2 grandstand. Grandstands HG1 and HG3 remain unaffected by this decision.

No Proper Explanation Given to Sports Fans

In its communication to ticket holders, Formula 1 failed to provide a thorough explanation or apology for this oversight. It simply stated:

For the inaugural race, it is vitally important that each and every fan benefit from an unparalleled viewing experience.

The statement appears to have done little to appease fans, with many expecting more transparency and accountability from the organization. However, F1 said that there would be team members who would reach out to affected fans to make alternative arrangements.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix is scheduled to start at 10.00 p.m. on Saturday, November 18. With only weeks to go, Formula 1 has found itself in a difficult situation. Many have said that F1 officials need to address the concerns of fans and ensure that the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix, which is one of the most hotly anticipated events of the F1 season, is not adversely affected by this turn of events.
