It has been revealed that the state of Connecticut will be launching sports betting on October 7th, which means that it will go live in time for the fifth week of the NFL season.

The announcement was made by the chief of staff for the state governor, Ned Lamont. It means that sports fans will be able to enjoy placing bets during this football season, albeit a few weeks in.

As part of the launch, the CT Lottery and two tribes will partner with three sportsbooks. The date has been scheduled based on plans that are already in place, so if everything runs to plan, there should be no delay to the launch date.

Officials say that although it has been a long process, finally sports fans will be able to place bets in their own state.

Many People Betting Elsewhere

According to reports, one of the things that lawmakers realized was that people living in the state were still engaging in sports betting but were doing it in other states or even with offshore sportsbooks and illegal operations. All of this equates to lost revenue for the state, which is something lawmakers and officials are keen to rectify.

By legalizing sports betting in Connecticut, state coffers will benefit hugely as will the sports betting industry. In addition, it means that sports fans will be able to enjoy the ease and convenience of being able to place bets within their own state rather than heading elsewhere or betting without any protection through offshore or illegal sportsbooks.

The timing of the launch of sports betting is also good for the state, as it means that sportsbooks can hit the ground running with the huge numbers of people who will be keen to place their bets during the NFL season.

Governor Lamont spoke to the media recently about the decision to legalize sports betting. He said:

This critical step in the process of modernizing our gaming landscape here in Connecticut ensures our state will have a competitive, nation-leading marketplace for wagering both in-person and online.

This means that Connecticut will now join a large number of states that have legalized sports betting since the start of the global pandemic. The revenue generated from sports betting activities has already helped many states to weather the financial devastation caused by the pandemic, and this is something that Connecticut also hopes to benefit from.

Huge Benefits for Sports Fans

The launch of sports betting in October will prove hugely beneficial for the many sports fans in the Nutmeg State. One of the benefits is that sports fans will still be able to catch part of the 2021 football season and place bets from their own state rather than having to head to neighboring states where sports betting has already been legalized.

Another benefit is that they will be able to enjoy proper protection by betting through regulated sportsbooks rather than turning to offshore and illegal sportsbooks where there is no protection in place should anything go awry.
