It was reported last week that Connecticut undertook a soft launch of mobile sports betting, with retail sports betting already being legal in the state. Well, this week saw the full launch go ahead and sports betting online finally went live as of 6.00 am ET on Tuesday 19th October.

The move will delight many sports fans, many of whom are eager to be able to place bets remotely rather than having to visit a sports betting facility.

People aged 21 and over will now be able to take to their mobiles and computers to place their bets, as the Mohegan Tribe and Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation have teamed up with two major sportsbooks, FanDuel and DraftKings. A Connecticut SugarHouse Sportsbook is also launching in the near future.

An Exciting Time for the State

The governor of the state, Ned Lamont, said that this was a very exciting time for Connecticut as well as for all the parties concerned. He said:

This is an exciting moment for our state and our tribal partners. Connecticut has proven to be a leader when it comes to the gaming economy going back decades, and that legacy will continue with the launch of these new online options.

While the two tribes will be able to offer iGaming and sports betting facilities online, the Connecticut Lottery will only be able to offer sports betting. The lottery is paired up with Rush Street Interactive to offer mobile sports betting.

The tribal chair of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, Rodney Butler, confirmed that the first bet was placed at 6.00 am as soon as mobile sports betting went live.

This is likely to be the first of huge numbers of bets that are placed during the first week, as people start to enjoy the convenience and ease of being able to wager online.

A Popular Method of Placing Bets

Both sportsbooks and the state of Connecticut stand to do very well out of legalizing mobile sports betting. Mobile betting has always been popular in states where it was already legalized, and over the past 18 months since the outbreak of the global pandemic the popularity of mobile sports betting has rocketed.

This means that the launch of mobile sports betting in Connecticut could see a surge in activity for sportsbooks, which then means more revenue for the state. In addition, it will provide sports fans across the state with a more convenient and simple means of placing bets on their favorite teams and sports.

In addition, the launch of mobile sports betting in the state comes at a great time, just a few weeks after the football season kicked off. This means that there is already a huge amount of interest among sports fans looking to place bets, so the online sportsbooks operating in the state are likely to find themselves very busy.

At present, there are three online sportsbooks for sports fans to use in order to place their bets, and they are DraftKings, FanDuel, and SugarHouse, the last of which is operated by Rush Street Interactive.
