This week has seen the soft launch of online sports betting in Connecticut, with limitations on customer numbers for each of the three sportsbooks in operation.

The sportsbooks taking part are FanDuel, DraftKings, and Rush Street Interactive, each of which has been limited to 750 customers as the soft launch begins. The sportsbooks have forged contracts with the state lottery as well as Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods casinos.

Limitations to Start

The soft launch was allowed to go ahead on Tuesday afternoon, with limits of eight hours of wagering for day one.

By the end of the week, this will be increased to 24-hour wagering according to the commissioner of the Department of Consumer Protection, Michelle Seagull. She said that the soft launch would help to ensure the rollout continued to run smoothly moving forward. She stated:

The way the law and the arrangement with the state’s tribal partners works is that they have to make certain financial contributions to the state so we want to make sure we understand how those revenue reports would work.

Seagull also said that the soft launch would allow any glitches to be picked up early on, which would then help with the expansion and rollout of online sports betting. She said that any issues that arose could be resolved with greater ease with a smaller-scale launch.

Looking Forward to a Range of Benefits

The launch of online sports betting will have a positive impact in many ways. For sports fans, it will provide a convenient and simple means of being able to place bets on their favorite sports and teams from the comfort of their homes or elsewhere via their mobile devices.

It also means that the state’s sportsbooks can boost revenue considerably given the popularity of online sports betting.

In addition to this, Mohegan Tribal Chairman James Gessner said that it would provide a wide range of additional benefits. He said that it could have a big positive impact on casino jobs and would bring in much-needed revenue for the state.

This has become particularly important given the financial devastation that has stemmed from the pandemic since the outbreak at the start of last year. This has had a huge impact on the economy in Connecticut and other states around the country.

He added that it was exciting that people would no longer have to travel in order to place their bets, as they would be able to do it from within state boundaries.

It could also help to cut back on the ongoing issues with illegal sports betting, which is something that has had a huge negative impact in states where sports betting has not yet been legalized.

The rising popularity of online sports betting is another of the huge benefits that have been discussed. Over the past 18 months, online sports betting in states where it is legal has become huge business.

Many have taken to betting online because of the pandemic, and even though the pandemic has eased, a lot of sports fans continue to use this method of placing bets.
