Officials at the micro-betting operator Betr were celebrating recently after receiving a license to operate an online sportsbook in Virginia. Approval for Betr to offer sports betting was given by the Virginia Lottery Board, and it means that the operator can further expand its footprint in the United States.

Betr is also due to go live in Massachusetts following the recent launch of online sports betting in the state. Online betting in the state went live on March 10th, with six well-known operators going live on that date.

There are four more operators still to go live, and Betr is one of them. However, it has delayed its go-live date in the state and is now likely to launch in April.

Joey Levy, the co-founder and CEO of the company, said that they wanted to ensure everything was properly prepared before launching, hence the decision to delay the Massachusetts launch.

However, he confirmed that Betr would most likely still be the seventh operator to launch in the state, and this was something that he was very proud of given the size and scale of the company.

Excitement Over Virginia Approval

Levy also spoke about the operator’s recent approval for a license in Virginia and said that it was a very exciting time for the company.

He said the company was excited:

…to receive approval for our sports betting license in Virginia and appreciate the seamless work with the Virginia Lottery Board to bring our product to customers in Virginia. This is an important milestone for us, and we can’t wait to bring our differentiated product experience to sports fans throughout Virginia.

No date has been provided as yet with regard to when the operator will launch its sports betting platform in Virginia, but officials have said that it is likely to be in the very near future.

It has been a very busy time for the company, as it also launched in Ohio earlier this year when sports betting went live in the state. While the operator did not launch in Ohio on the go-live date, it still posted a handle of $1.1 million.

According to Betr, it got off to a very strong start in Ohio and said that the results of the first few weeks there exceeded expectations. It now hopes to achieve the same sort of success when it launches in Massachusetts in April and when it goes live in Virginia.

Starting Small But Growing

Started by Joey Levy and Jake Paul in the summer of last year, Betr has gone from strength to strength. It began as a micro-betting platform, which was started after the founders managed to raise $50 million in funding through a range of sources.

The operator is now finding itself in the big leagues alongside major sports betting operators like FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM. As more and more states go live with online sports betting, it is likely that the operator’s footprint across the United States will continue to expand.
