A senior official from Penn National Gaming recently revealed that the Barstool sportsbook could be up and running in New Jersey, one of the nation’s biggest gambling hotspots, later this spring. The sportsbook is already operating in some other states, and according to CEO Jay Snowden, it could be ready to go live in New Jersey by the end of May. This will give sports fans in New Jersey even more choice when it comes to placing their bets.

While the target is still tentative at present, Snowden believes that the end of May is a realistic timescale and has confirmed that the sportsbook will be using two of the three online sportsbook skins for the Freehold Raceway racetrack.

NJ Approval Could Take Some Time

At the time Snowden revealed the operator’s plans, no application had been made with gaming regulators in New Jersey for approval of sports betting. Officials have said that this can take some weeks to come through, so this will have to be acted upon quickly if Penn wants to achieve its goal of going live at the end of May.

Many have been awaiting the addition of the Barstool sportsbook, which will bring the number of operators in the Garden State up to 20. While the sports betting market is a crowded one in the state, Snowden said that he expected the sportsbook to do well even with the stiff competition from the likes of DraftKings and FanDuel. He said:

What I think you should assume is that we are going to be top three. We said that before we ever launched and we’re delivering on that. We’re going to be profitable faster than anyone else, and we’re delivering on that and continue to deliver on that pledge…

The company is set to release further details with regard to the launch a New Jersey sports betting app over the coming weeks.

Other States on the Radar for Penn National Gaming

The Barstool sportsbook also has other sites on the radar for launches, with some already planned. Already, the operator offers sportsbooks in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, where it has proven very popular with sports fans looking to place bets on their favorite teams and sports events.

In addition, Snowden said that it was likely the sportsbook would also be ready to launch in Indiana in April.

With more and more states now legalizing sports betting, Penn National Gaming also has a range of other destinations in its sights for the launch of the Barstool sportsbook. These include the likes of Ohio, Massachusetts, Georgia, and Maine, among others. The operator hopes to have its sportsbook operational in a number of other states and destinations before the 2021 NFL season begins in September.

Many believe that the ambitions of Penn with its Barstool sportsbook make this brand one to watch. While there is certainly a lot of stiff competition from some of the biggest players in the sportsbook arena, Penn expects the sportsbook to hold its own and enjoy a high level of success.
