It has been announced that the state of Arizona is setting a target date of September 9th for sports betting across the state to go live. According to officials from the Arizona Department of Gaming, this is a realistic target date for sports betting to officially launch and go live, giving authorities several months to get things ready.

The good news for the state is that the scheduled launch date coincides with the beginning of the NFL season for 2021. This means the launch can hit the ground running with many people who will be eager to place bets. The legislation was signed by the state governor, Doug Ducey, in mid-April and things are now starting to move forward.

Draft of Regulations to be Released Later in June

It has also been revealed that gaming regulators will be releasing a draft of the rules and regulations in mid-June so that the public can take a look. This is set to be released on June 14th, at which point those who want to take a look and comment will have until June 21st to do so.

Once the period for comments on the regulations has passed, the ADG will have a period during which amendments can be made. If all goes smoothly, the gaming department is confident that sports betting will be up and running in time for the NFL season.

Many are excited not only because of the opportunity it provides for sports fans and sportsbooks in the state but also because of the impact on the economy and on jobs. The state governor commented on this previously. He said:

Gaming creates thousands of jobs for Arizonans, it generates tax revenue that benefits key areas of our communities, and it draws visitors to our state.

As the state prepared to go live with sports betting, various deals are already taking place. Three online sportsbooks have revealed partnerships in Arizona, namely DraftKings, FanDuel, and Caesars.

It was revealed that DraftKings is expanding its current partnership with the PGA Tour to enable both retail and mobile sports betting in the state. A multi-year partnership has also been announced between FanDuel and the Phoenix Suns Arena. In addition, retail and mobile sports betting will be enabled as a result of an agreement between Caesars Entertainment and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Sports Betting Set to Provide a Range of Benefits

This latest announcement means that Arizona will join the many other states that have launched sports betting over the past year. For many, this is not only a method of moving with the times when it comes to the world of sports betting but also a way to revive the economy after the devastation caused by the global pandemic.

For many states, the launch of sports betting has brought in huge amounts of revenue, which will help to maintain vital services and boost the economy. Arizona officials no doubt hope that they can also enjoy this benefit once sports betting goes live later this year.
