2023 NASCAR Coca-Cola 600: Season So Far

The 75th season started with the longest Daytona 500 in the history of NASCAR. Luck sided with Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who won the most renowned race on the calendar courtesy of a second overtime wreck. The 2022 NASCAR Cup Series championship winner, Joey Logano, had to settle for second place, with Christopher Bell completing the podium.

At the Pala Casino 400, the entire podium was different as Stenhouse Jr. finished 12th and Logano hung on to tenth place while Bell crashed out. It was an all-Chevrolet podium after Kyle Busch took the checkered flag with Chase Elliott behind him in second and Ross Chastain finishing third.

The podium continued to feature new faces in the third race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. William Byron snatched the win at Pennzoil 400, finishing ahead of Kyle Larson and Alex Bowman. Byron nabbed back-to-back as he also won the United Rentals Work United 500, finishing ahead of Ryan Blaney in second and Tyler Reddick in third.

Logan finally earned his first win of the season at the Ambetter Health 400, overtaking leader Brad Keselowski on the final lap. The defending champion finished only about two-tenths of a second clear of both Keselowski and Bell. The latter secured his second podium of the season as he nabbed a third-place finish for the second time.

Toyota nabbed their first win of the season as Tyler Reddick won the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix. Busch was back on the podium after finishing second, and Alex Bowman finished third. Larson nabbed his first win of the season and 20th of his career at the Toyota Owners 400, finishing ahead of Josh Berry and Chastain.

Larson’s second win of the season came at NOCO 400, where Logano finished second, and Martin Truex Jr. finished third. This race came after the Food City Dirt Race, where Bell won, and Reddick finished second, ahead of Austin Dillon in third. At GEICO 500, Busch nabbed his second win of the season, as Blaney finished second and Chris Buescher was third.

Starting 17th at Wurth 400, Truex Jr. made his way to the front of the grid and eventually ended a 54-race winless streak. The Toyota driver finished ahead of Chastain and Blaney. Another streak was put to rest at the AdventHealth 400 when Denny Hamlin pipped Larson on the final lap to end his 33-race winless run. Byron completed the podium with a third-place finish.

At the last Cup Series race, the Goodyear 400, Byron was on the podium again, this time clinching his third win of the season. This was also his 100th victory for his current team. Kevin Harvick nabbed his first podium of the season after finishing second ahead of Elliot in third. Ahead of the Coca-Cola 600, Chastain leads the Drivers’ Championship with 429 points.

2023 NASCAR Coca-Cola 600: Best Picks

Toyota dominated the qualifying session at the Charlotte Motor Speedway last year as only one of their cars was outside the top 10. Additionally, three Joe Gibbs Racing cars were in the front four. Hamlin snatched the pole position ahead of Kurt Busch, Bell, and Kyle Busch. Truex Jr’s Toyota was 14th on the grid.

Despite a strong qualifying, the first three stages were won by Chevrolet-powered cars. However, Toyota did bag the win in the final stage with Hamlin. Kyle finished second with the two Ford-powered cars of team Stewart-Haas Racing, driven by Kevin Harvick and Chase Briscoe.

None of these drivers are at the top of the odds list this time. Larson, who is ranked ninth in the championship and who finished ninth on this track last year, is backed by the best odds to win the race. Chevrolet are leading the Manufacturers’ Championship, and the possibility of a Chevy-powered team to win is relatively high.

Besides Larson, Byron has been quick and steady behind the wheel this season. He is looking to avenge last year’s disappointment after he got stuck in a crash involving multiple cars that was caused due to Ryan Blaney’s skid in the middle of the track. Hamlin and Bell are the only two Toyota drivers that could pip the Chevrolets for a win.
