2019 Legalization of Sports Betting by Governor JB Pritzker

Governor JB Pritzker challenges for the legislature to pass a bill in to legalize sports betting. The governor demonstrates this by including the revenue from sports betting in his budget proposal. In the 2019 legislative sessions, legalization makes progress.

Bill H3308 was introduced by rep. Mike Zalewski. Hearings lead to the introduction of five proposed amendments, later reduced to 2, demonstrating legislative progress towards the legalization of sports betting.

2020 First Legal Sports Bet Taken After several months of legislative hearings on sports betting bills, it was finally legalized. In March 2020, the first legal bet was placed in Illinois, and legal sports betting explodes in popularity, rapidly growing to one of the largest markets in the United States.
